Tracking in the Great Outdoors

With warmer weather and more hours of daylight, June is the perfect time to celebrate Great Outdoors Month. We know the summer season means more time outside, and as a result, more outside elements coming in to your home.

Disturbingly, 80 percent of the dirt in your house walks in through the door on people’s feet, according to MerryMaidsCR.com.

To help keep that dirt outside your home, here are a few tips we recommend to help you enjoy the great outdoors and reduce the stress of possible stains:

  • Clean Outside: Sweep your patio, porch, sidewalks and driveway regularly to reduce the amount of dirt people encounter before getting to your door.
  • Wipe First: Use doormats at each entrance of your home, inside and outside, to provide your family and friends a place to wipe their shoes before they enter your home.
  • No Shoes Allowed: Restrict shoes in certain areas of your home or altogether. This is fairly easy to do if you provide a basket or container for people to leave their shoes upon entering the house.
  • Allergens Alert: Beware of summer allergens that may sneak into your home when you leave windows and doors open for a longer period of time to enjoy the summer air.

No matter how hard you try, your family, pets and houseguests are sure to drag in some of the ‘great outdoors.’ To combat dirt, mud or grass stains, try Rug Doctor’s Urine Eliminator or Rug Doctor’s Carpet Spot & Stain Remover, or if you have trouble with pets dragging in stains or odors this summer or beyond, try our Pet Formula.
