Common Summer Allergens and How to Combat Triggers in Your Home

The first day of summer is officially here. While spending time outdoors enjoying the warmer weather is great, for many, it marks another allergy season. Itchy, runny noses, watery eyes and sneezing are not welcome visitors when one is trying to enjoy summer. Luckily, Rug Doctor’s machines and carpet cleaning formulas can help to remove allergens from your home. Combining these tips and using your Rug Doctor products can help to keep your family sniffle-free this summer.

  • Clean those Carpets: You may not realize it, but your carpet actually harbors all the dust mites, pollen and pet hair that enter your home. The best way to rid your carpet of these allergens is to use Rug Doctor’s hot water extraction system  to deep clean your carpets every three to six months. In between deep cleanings, vacuum your carpets twice a week to keep the allergens at bay.
  • Organize: When your house is clutter free, allergens don’t have as many places to stake out. So keep toys, clothes and appliances neatly stored. You’ll have a clean house and eliminate extra hiding spots for pollen, ragweed and dust.
  • Keep your Air Clean: Change your air filters every three months. By doing so, you will ensure that the air filter can better trap allergens before they reach your family’s airways. While you’re at it, clean your air vents as well for extra protection.
  • Snooze in Clean Sheets: Think about it, all of the allergens your body (clothes, hair etc.) collects throughout the day will get onto your sheets. So don’t forget to wash your sheets in hot water on a weekly basis. Also, it may be a good idea to shower after you return from being outside so you reduce your chances of passing on allergens to other spots in your house.

With these ideas in mind, you’ll surely enjoy your summer allergy-free. Of course, on top of all these tips, don’t forget that your physician can best determine what you are allergic to and how best to handle your symptoms.
