It’s almost March and the weather is going to start warming up soon. And while most think of this time of year as vacation time, it’s also time for spring cleaning! The thought of spring cleaning can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Here’s what works best for me -
- One room at a time – I tackle one room a day. It it’s so much easier to cross things off your list a little each day rather than be overwhelmed with a huge project.
- Take advantage of time savers – My Rug Doctor machine is a great time saver when it comes to our carpet. I know my carpet is going to be extra clean when I use my Rug Doctor and it only takes about 20 minutes.
- Make piles – Donate. Garage Sale. Keep. Those are the three keywords in my house when it comes to spring cleaning. It helps me stay on task and it helps me reduce the clutter.
- Label everything – For me, spring cleaning isn’t just about reducing the clutter – it’s also about getting organized. A label maker is great for labeling bins, drawers and file folders.
I’ve already started putting together my to-do lists for this season’s spring cleaning chores. My girls are almost at the age to start helping, so this may be the year they get in on the cleaning fun, too!
Good luck tackling your spring cleaning projects. While it may feel like a lot of work now, just think about how great you’ll feel with everything nice and clean! Start spring with a fresh, new start and a clean home!

I just spent last weekend going through closets and donating many things! Our carpet needs a deep cleaning, especially with all of the “illness,” that our family has battled the last few months! Thank you Carrie, for the great tips!
You are SO right about “one room at a time”! I can get so overwhelmed when I think about all the things I want to fix/clean everywhere. CLEAN ALL THE THINGS! If I just focus on one room, it’s manageable and I don’t get overwhelmed.
Good idea, one thing at a time makes the work good and less tiring.
