Keeping your upholstery clean is an important step toward keeping your furniture in great shape for years to come. Fortunately, with the help of a Rug Doctor, you can keep your upholstery clean and in great shape – and the process of cleaning your upholstery with a Rug Doctor is quite simple. Here’s how you do it.
Step #1: Vacuum the Surface
The first step in the process is to thoroughly vacuum the area. This can be done with the help of the large vacuum hose connected to the machine.
Step #2: Spread Cushions on the Floor
Next, you will need to spread sheets or towels on the floor. Then, place the cushion son these sheets or towels before you begin the cleaning process.
Step #3: Prepare the Rug Doctor for Cleaning
With the surface of the upholstery thoroughly vacuumed clean, you then need to pull out the solution hose and secure it in place with the brass “quick coupler” ring. Be sure to tug the hose gently to ensure it is securely in place.
Step #4: Mix the Cleaner
Now, it is time to mix the Rug Doctor Upholstery Cleaner according to the label directions. The final mixture should be powered into the lower tank C, while ¼ to ½ cup of Rug Doctor Anti-Foam should be added to the white upper tank B. Be sure the tanks are put back into place and properly sealed.
Step #5: Test a Small Area
Turn the “upholstery/hand tool” setting on and then clean a small, hidden area of the upholstery. After cleaning, rub the area with a white paper towel. If no color comes off on the towel, you may finish the job. If a small amount of color rubs off onto the towel, there is a chance that the color will run. To prevent this from happening, you might want to use cold water instead.
Step #6: Finish Cleaning
Now that you know it is safe to clean the upholstery, complete the job at a slow, steady pace. As you pool the cleaning tool over the fabric, be sure to slightly overlap the strokes in order to complete a thorough job.
